How we keep riders safe

Riding for the Disabled Association of Victoria (RDAV) is committed to the safety, happiness and empowerment of all children, particularly those with a disability. We, too, recognise the cultural safety of First Nations children, those from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those whose social and economic environment makes them more vulnerable.   We recognise our role in ensuring the safety of children, and our commitment is to promote and maintain a culture without tolerance for abuse, neglect or exploitation. All allegations and safety concerns are, and will always be, treated very seriously in line with our policies, procedures and legislative obligations.   Having undergone a Child Safeguarding Review across the organisation and in complying with the key requirements of the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, our key initiatives are:
  1. Communicating and promoting our Child Safety Policy, including child-safe practices) to staff, volunteers and coaches;
  2. Making resources available through direct communications, the Child Safe Resources section on the website https://rdav-backup.lmdev.com.au/our-programs/how-we-keep-riders-safe/ and mandating “Online Training Play by the Rules” Child Protection Training for staff, volunteers and coaches;
  3. Embedding child safety and wellbeing into leadership, governance and culture from the Board and CEO to the entire organisation;
  4. Incorporating child safe clauses into grants or procurement documents for funded third parties where appropriate; and
  5. Working with RDAA to develop child-friendly information that is easily understood and accessible to staff and children.
